SOFiA RUFFiNO

I’m an artist, ceramicist and designer currently creating In Marrakech, Morocco.

Self-taught and driven to experiment through inspiration.

I use techniques learned from accomplished potters and my motivation stems from a hunger to push boundaries.

Extremist by nature, I have found my own styles which are a testament to an exploration of humble teachings from a wide array of many fine unrecognised working potters globally.

I make decorative vessels and functional sculptures and am partial to the idea that these pieces can be used in some way in daily living.

Made to be touched and talked about I create work that I see from dreamy visions and in execution, these visions come to life most often spontaneously in direct contact with the clay.

Sharing food is undoubtedly the most simple way to engage with people.

Everyone loves pasta!

I embrace my Sicilian roots and appreciate growing up in my family’s restaurant (in Queensland, Australia) where we were free to expand on traditional recipes, not the case with the purists in Italy!

We would make almost every meal an event.

I love the feeling that sharing food doesn’t require words or translations and that smiles and breaking bread are able to unite us.
