RECLAiMED VESSELS
AN ONGOING SERIES
Abandoned handmade water carafs are sourced for their individual beauty and presence they hold, regardless of cracks and the irregularities for which they were disgarded, to be glazed as one of a kind vessels.
Vessels formed in one sitting, often in groups, fondly referred to as ‘siblings’
“Rescuing and reclaiming these ‘imperfect’ vessels is saving them from thousands of years of landfill ( think ancient tombs )
Creating jobs, fulfilment and laughter in the process" - Sofia
TWO AIMS / IDEAS
WRAPPiNG FORMS
Combining existing artisanal techniques with common materials to make everyday forms feel new.
Endeavouring to give the working potters an understanding of how their ancestrally learnt 'work' can be viewed and appreciated as objects in their own right, aside from functional purpose.
Adorning vessels with accessories made from natural fibers, twisted, knitted and frayed is where crafty hands and a designer eye join talents to meld elements of nature.
“I envision the vessels breathing through these slithers of light, echoing their straw basket muses ”
BASKETWARE
Collection 2
Italian volcanic clay brings another element when mixed with the rich, red clay earth of Morocco.
Slabs are stretched and pressed to form ceramic bowls echoing low slung basket forms.
Gas fired innumerable times, until the desired feel to each piece is obtained, often results in the forms opening slightly.
"I like to think that this adds to their drama"
